My great grand father, was William Luke.
And I’d like to write a little thing for his memory to go on living and I really admire him a lot !

Gene L.Howard wrote a book about his life, a very interesting book called « Death at Cross Plains ».

William luke died in 1912.

He went to America from Scotland in 1852.William Luke became a white former Canadian minister hired by the local railroad compagny to educate black workers and their families.

When William Luke was a teacher in an African-American school in Alabama he was victum of the Klu-Klux-Klan. His house was fired upon by rifles in the late 19th century and he was eventually lynched by the Klu-Klux-Klan.

I had time to write a lettre to his familly.

If you like this short summary you can’t find all his story in the book « Death at Cross Plains »
