Le Mystère de la Chambre Jaune by Gaston Leroux

mardi 29 janvier 2008

I’m going to tell you about one of the best books that I’ve ever read : « Le Mystère de la chambre Jaune »

Who tried to murder Miss Stangerson ? How was the murderer able to run away from Miss Stangerson’s room locked inside ?

Professor Stangerson has worked fifteen years with his daughter, who always refused to get married. They live both in the castle of Glandier.
Nevertheless, Miss Stangerson, eventually, accepts to be engaged to Robert Darzac which has courted her for fifteen years.
But not long after she announced her decision, she is assaulted.
Joseph Rouletabille, a young reporter tries to solve the mystery.
During the inquiry, Rouletabille discovers that not only did the murderer want to murder but also wanted Mr Stangerson’s scientific papers which have disappeared.
The police, who also makes an inquiry, calls a famous inspector, Frédérique Larsan who suspects Robert Darzac.

I loved this book because the plot was fascinating. I even tried to solve the mystery myself and when at the end, Rouletabille reveals the truth, I was dumbfounded.
